Akeal Hosein is a Trinidadian professional cricketer who has represented the West Indies primarily in the limited-overs formats of the sport (ODIs and T20Is), as a bowling all-rounder. He had made his international debut in both formats in 2021. Before making his senior team international debut, he had also represented the West Indies at the 2012 Under-19 Cricket World Cup. He had top-scored with a knock of 54 runs in the team’s heart-breaking last-ball defeat against New Zealand in the quarter-final. The West Indies had eventually finished in a creditable 6th position. In the Caribbean domestic circuit, he has played for his home country of Trinidad and Tobago (2013–Present) across all 3 formats. A valuable spin bowler who can contribute crucial runs with the bat lower down the batting order, he has been featured in T20 franchise teams including Barbados Tridents (2014–2019) and Trinbago Knight Riders (2020-Present) in the CPL (Caribbean Premier League).

Akeal, after solid performances at the 2012 Under-19 Cricket World Cup, had made his domestic cricket debut for his home country of Trinidad and Tobago during the 2012–13 Regional Four Day Competition, in a first-class match against Jamaica.

In the following season of the tournament, he had produced ‘Player of the Match’ performances in successive matches. In the first of those matches, he had produced spectacular bowling spells of 6/33 and 5/34 against the Windward Islands. In the next match, he had showcased his skill with bat, recording his maiden first-class century, a score of 102 runs not out, against the Leeward Islands.

These performances had earned him a contract with the Barbados Tridents for the 2014 season of the Caribbean Premier League. He had also represented the team in the 2014 edition of the Champions League Twenty20 tournament, the last season of the now-defunct annual international T20 cricket competition that was played between the top domestic T20 teams from major cricketing nations. He had picked 3 wickets in 3 games in that tournament.

In July 2020, after a long stint with the Barbados Tridents, he was acquired by the Trinbago Knight Riders for the 2020 edition of the Caribbean Premier League. He had picked 10 wickets in the tournament and his economical bowling was a vital cog in the team’s eventual title triumph. This was the 8th edition of the tournament and the 4th title triumph for the Trinbago Knight Riders.
